Building a reading

How to learn a verse:

  1. Read the Hebrew well.

  2. Read the trope symbols, by name, well.

  3. Sing the trope symbols, by name, well.

  4. When Hebrew and singing are solid, combine them.

  5. When combined is solid, try from Torah side.

How to practice:

  1. Read/sing a phrase/verse out loud.

  2. Repeat until smooth.

  3. Once smooth, do the next phrase/verse.

  4. Every few verses/parts, repeat it all, to ensure you remember.

Group One is the basic phrases of a verse:

  • Katon phrase – a basic phrase

  • Etnachta phrase – always one, middle of verse (like a comma)

  • Silluk phrase – always one, end of verse

 

Group One has the most common phrases. Master them and you're already most of the way!
